Frequently asked questions about taster sessions and apprenticeships as a gardener

These are the most frequently asked questions about an apprenticeship as a gardener EFZ. Would you like further questions answered? Contact us and we will be happy to answer any further questions personally.

Is the taster mandatory for applying as an apprentice?

Yes, because this is how we get to know you and your skills. At the same time, you have a direct insight into the profession, which also makes your decision easier.

It is important to us that you enjoy the job and are motivated, which is why 5 days of taster days are a prerequisite for your application. This also includes taster days at other companies.

What do I need to take with me when I try out?

Dress appropriately for the weather, i.e. remember your rain jacket or apply sunscreen.

Choose suitable footwear with a good profile that can get dirty, such as hiking boots. If you even have safety shoes, that's even better!

You spend the whole day in a team. So bring your snack and lunch with you. In the morning the break lasts from 9-9.30 am and at lunchtime from 12-13 pm.

Don't forget: You are working physically. So bring enough liquid in a drinks bottle with you.

How long does a working day last?

Our work depends on the weather. While we start at 6.30 a.m. in summer, we start at 7.30 a.m. in winter. We usually leave the construction site at 5.15 pm. On Fridays we finish at 4 pm.

We will of course inform you about the exact times before you start your trial apprenticeship with us.

How long does the apprenticeship last?

The apprenticeship to become a gardener with a Federal Certificate of Competence (EFZ) lasts 3 years. The apprenticeship to become a gardener with a federal vocational certificate (EBA) lasts 2 years.

What prospects do I have after my apprenticeship?

After your apprenticeship, you will have a broad range of specialist knowledge and be familiar with the various tasks involved in gardening. You can pursue your passion with us, whether in new construction, pool construction or maintenance.

We will also be happy to support you in your further career as a foreman, foreman or site manager. You also have the opportunity to continue your training during your employment with us. At Jardin Suisse, you will find all training and further education courses in the green sector.

Can I stay in the egli jona team after my apprenticeship?

There is the opportunity to remain part of the team after successfully completing your apprenticeship. We are always happy to welcome talented young people from within the company.

How can I apply for a job at egli jona ?

It is important to us that you enjoy your job and are happy to help out. That's why we are happy to accept your application after a five-day trial apprenticeship. These five days will give us a better idea of your skills and whether you are a good fit for us - regardless of your grades.

We also need a CV, a letter of motivation and a current school report. You can answer the following questions in your letter of motivation:

  • Why do you want to become a gardener?
  • Why do you want to do an apprenticeship with us?
What grades do I need for an apprenticeship as a landscape gardener?

It's more important to us that you enjoy your job, that you think for yourself and can get stuck in. That's why your grades are secondary. But you can prove yourself during a five-day trial apprenticeship before you apply for the apprenticeship. We look forward to seeing you!

At which school will I be trained?

You will usually be trained in Wetzikon. However, depending on where you live, you may also go to Rorschach.

Who will look after me?

Our vocational trainer Stefan Fiorili will be at your side throughout your apprenticeship. You will also be accompanied and trained by the foremen on the construction sites and gardens. You can look forward to good support with varied work!

How often do I attend school?

You attend school one day a week and learn all the theoretical basics for the job.

You will also regularly attend inter-company courses (ÜK), which take place around two to four times a year.
