A bathing garden with living pool in the middle of a residential area: when indoor and outdoor spaces merge

This garden was voted one of the most beautiful in the German-speaking world in 2023.

Strolling through the housing estate, it is hard to imagine that a swimming paradise with a living pool like this is hidden somewhere behind the hedges. The design, the planting and the privacy screen have created a garden with a great deal of privacy.

From planning to the finished design

A harmonious overall picture by day and by night

The new extension, which is connected to the existing house by a glass corridor, has enabled a completely new use of the outdoor space. What was previously a large, rather unused lawn has now become the center of life for a young family. The naturally cleaned living pool is located between the new and the existing building. To create a harmonious connection between the two areas, elements such as the natural stone wall were incorporated into the garden design, which can also be found in the façade of the house. A custom-made trough with grasses and pampas grass was chosen along the side of the house, creating a gentle transition between the wooden deck and the façade.

"Open-air living room": this garden could not be described more aptly. The canopy not only contributes to the look, but is also equipped with an adjustable sun canopy. In addition, a Japanese camellia was placed in the corner of the covered area, which grows through the roof. As well as creating an exciting interplay of shadows, the tree combines architecture and nature in a modern and elegant way. After the hours of sunlight, spotlights illuminate the unusual forks so that the Japanese camellia takes center stage like a sculpture.

An outdoor living room as a dream garden

Embedded in nature

A generous planting strip was planned around the extension. The large windows give the impression that the living space is in the middle of nature. The grasses and solitary trees give the extension a bungalow-like atmosphere. In the evening, the living room light falls gently on the grasses, visually extending the interior to the outside and thus enlarging it. The illuminated lounge area in the center of the garden makes the surrounding buildings almost disappear into the darkness. The treetops also form a beautiful canopy of leaves, which not only helps to create space, but also provides additional privacy. This creates a harmonious overall picture.

Sustainably planned garden

The Living Pool technology, which does not use any chemicals at all, was chosen to ensure the most sustainable bathing pleasure possible. The energy-efficient biofilter removes phosphate, which is vital for algae, from the water. This means that the environment is not polluted by chemicals, while the water remains crystal clear. In addition, the floor of the extension is made of wood instead of stone, which enables natural and sustainable cooling of the atrium.
