«We are proud that we were able to hold the ground-breaking ceremony for the long-awaited Grünfelspark today. With the imminent start of construction work, we are creating a green oasis for the urban population of Rapperswil-Jona. We are looking forward to making Grünfelspark a place that offers intergenerational enjoyment, exercise and recreation while strengthening the sense of community,» Christian Egli.
A city park for all generations
Between August 2023 and late summer 2024, a new city park will be created here at Jona railway station. This place has been planned to bring generations together, encourage exercise and relaxation and incorporate nature.
In addition to various exercise elements and relaxation oases under the trees, a space for events is also being created, as the infrastructure for food trucks and the like is already being installed. The pump track and the playground at the same height are already attracting countless visitors. With the new city park in Rapperswil-Jona, this number will also increase. For this reason, a sanitary facility has also been planned. A water basin also provides a further natural element.
The already realised roller park on the opposite side is attracting a great deal of interest. We are certain that the new Grünfelspark will quickly develop into an important meeting place for young and old.
We are very excited about the start of construction and will regularly show you the progress on social media and in our Newsletter.
A balancing device for the little ones
Since the start of construction in August 2023, the future Grünfelspark has already changed a lot. Especially at the beginning, many of our excavators and other machines were in use. These were used to move large amounts of earth and create space for the upcoming elements.
In the meantime, the city park has already received its first piece of play equipment. In future, the little ones will be able to spend their time on this, while the older children can burn off energy on the pump track.
The opening day
The time has finally come: Grünfelspark is officially opened to the general public. To celebrate, the city of Rapperswil-Jona has organised some great activities for the whole family.
There are various climbing and balancing equipment in the playground, which invite children to discover the new landscape. The neighbouring fountain provides cool refreshment after the fun. On hot summer days, it brings a pleasant freshness to the city park. Various paths have also been laid out throughout the landscape, which are ideal for short walks. The park can be accessed directly from Villa Grünfels via the newly built steps.
Spread across the entire area, there are numerous seating and lounging areas that invite you to relax and socialise with other visitors. New sanitary facilities ensure that nothing is missing on an afternoon of play. The extensive lawn offers plenty of space to let off steam, for football matches and other sporting activities. Small meadow oases break up the lawn and make the landscape blossom. Various plants delight visitors with their colourful flowers and bring more vitality to the park. In addition, the new trees by the seating areas will grow vigorously over the next few months, creating shady spots.
The new Grünfelspark is an enrichment for the entire city and invites all generations to enjoy relaxing afternoons. While the little ones let off steam on the playground or the adjacent pump track, parents can prepare a cosy picnic or take a short walk along the winding paths. Right next to Jona railway station, there is now a place for the whole family to socialise and have a laugh.
