Garden tip: Cleaning concrete and natural stone slabs and walls

Do you like the blog? Please let us know.

Green deposits and dirt don't stop at garden gates. We explain how to clean concrete and natural stone paving slabs and walls in the garden.

Cleaning concrete coverings

Although concrete floor coverings or walls are robust, they are also porous and liquids can seep in and cause unsightly stains. To prevent stains, leaves, petals and organic material in general should be removed regularly. If unsightly stains do occur, they can be removed with a scrubbing brush and a little warm water. This will also remove unsightly green deposits. If possible, a high-pressure cleaner should not be used to clean concrete surfaces. The reason: the strong jet of water attacks the surface and makes it more susceptible to further stains.

Tip: Many stains on concrete flooring can be removed with quartz sand, which acts like sandpaper. To do this, simply sweep the quartz sand over the concrete flooring and then collect it cleanly again.

How to clean natural stone

Most natural stones are robust and durable. The natural material absorbs hardly any water and is weatherproof. Nevertheless, natural stone naturally has tiny indentations and irregularities in which dirt can accumulate. Stains and unsightly green deposits are generally easy to clean with water, a special natural stone cleaner and a brush. Hard natural stone such as granite or basalt can also be cleaned gently with a high-pressure cleaner. A pressure washer should not be used on soft natural stone. Instead, apply a natural stone cleaner and rinse thoroughly with plenty of water after the appropriate contact time.
