The rose garden on the upper Bahnhofstrasse has existed since 1984 and was created on the initiative of Hans Rathgeb, the former president of the Rapperswil Beautification Association. It is one of four rose gardens and makes a significant contribution to the cityscape of Rapperswil-Jona, the city of roses.

The rose garden has now been renovated and extended. At the western end of the garden, a large rose bed has been created with a metal structure that draws the shape of a rose blossom in the bed. The planned benches around it are surrounded by stelae, on which climbing roses grow up and form a green roof over time. In addition to the climbing roses, the planting is complemented by shrub roses, peonies, arbourvitae, delphiniums, lavender and other plants. The Erni fountain, which today stands in the western part of the garden, was moved to the eastern end.
