The clientele wanted a seating area with trees for the outdoor area. Also a water feature, which can be illuminated at night, should enhance the new garden area. The result is a place where guests can spend cozy evenings, enjoy time in the shade with a book, or simply unwind.
A small green oasis
Additional requirements for the redesign were, on the one hand, the preservation of the view of Lake Zurich on the south side and, on the other hand, the concealment of the neighboring house to the east was important to the client. This was very present and dominant in the still open garden. The unsightly wall on the east side was also to be cleverly hidden.
Before and after the redesign
The seat in focus
The soft shapes that emerged during the implementation create a picturesque image. Together with the rectilinear elements such as the water basin and the stepping slabs, the bridge to the modern house succeeds. The planting is on the one hand romantic and rich in flowers, on the other hand peppered with clear, rigid forms such as the beech balls and grasses. The repetition of the element wood in the water feature and in the furniture is a valuable detail that gives the garden more tranquility. The seating area is also strengthened by the three high trunk trees. They hide the view of the neighboring house, provide shade and create a wonderful atmosphere. The gravel surface supports this cozy atmosphere.
A gentle ripple in the ear
The water basin was arranged in the front area to be able to experience it also from the house. The fountain with the water splashing has a visually and acoustically invigorating effect, provides a refreshing foot bath and is also an eye-catcher at night thanks to lighting. The pump shaft was cleverly integrated into the bench. The tread plates then create the connection from the modern house to the garden.
Magic attraction through water
Plants used in the garden
The feel-good character of the seating area could be further supported by the planting: For the background as well as in the semicircle towards the house, somewhat taller plants were selected. This elegantly conceals the unsightly wall. At the same time, the seating area is given a protective framework that conveys a sense of security and well-being. The neighboring house was also successfully moved into the background, because the seating area is the focus and attracts attention. The marsh irises caress the water feature.
