A place to sit and linger

The client wanted a seating area with trees for the outdoor area. They also wanted a water feature that could be illuminated at night to enhance the new garden area. The result is a place where guests can spend cosy evenings, relax in the shade with a book or simply unwind.

A small green oasis

Additional requirements for the redesign included preserving the view of Lake Zurich on the south side and concealing the neighbouring house to the east. This was very present and dominant in the still open garden. The unsightly wall on the east side was also to be skilfully concealed.

Before and after the remodelling

The fountain can be used to enjoy a sunny afternoon in the seating area. The interplay between the fountain and the plants creates a cosy atmosphere in this seating area.

Focus on the seat

The soft shapes created during the realisation create a picturesque image. Together with the linear elements such as the water basin and the stepping stones, they successfully bridge the gap to the modern house. The planting is romantic and full of flowers on the one hand, and peppered with clear, rigid forms such as the box balls and grasses on the other. The repetition of the element of wood in the water feature and furniture is a valuable detail that lends the garden more tranquillity. The seating area is also emphasised by the three tall trees. They obscure the view of the neighbouring house, provide shade and create a wonderful atmosphere. The gravel surface supports this cosy atmosphere.

Where peace and balance are found

A gentle ripple in the ear

The water basin was positioned at the front so that it can also be experienced from the house. The fountain with its splashing water has a visually and acoustically invigorating effect, provides a refreshing footbath and is also an eye-catcher at night thanks to the lighting. The pump shaft has been skilfully integrated into the bench. The steps then create the link between the modern house and the garden.

Magical attraction through water

Plants used in the garden

The feel-good character of the seating area was further emphasised by the planting: Slightly taller plants were selected for the background and in the semi-circle towards the house. This elegantly conceals the unsightly wall. At the same time, the seating area is given a protective frame that conveys a sense of security and well-being. The neighbouring house was also successfully pushed into the background, as the seating area is the focal point and attracts attention. The marsh irises caress the water feature.
